Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/1250 has been adopted

Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/1250, removing the flavouring substance 4,5-epoxydec-2(trans)-enal from the EU Union List has been adopted on 11 July and published in the Official Journal on 12 July 2017.

The Regulation published on 12 July 2017 applies with immediate effect (i.e. as of 13 July) – meaning that the flavouring substance 4,5-epoxydec-2(trans)-enal cannot be used anymore as flavouring substance in or on food in the EU.  As there is no transitional period, also existing flavouring formulations containing the substance can no longer be used in food products on the EU market. This Regulation is the result of the publication of EFSA Opinion FGE.226 Rev1.
