The European Flavour Association (EFFA) is excited to announce the appointment of Marc van der Duijs as its new Executive Director, starting in January 2025. Based in Brussels, Marc brings over 30 years of leadership experience in the flavour industry, along with a longstanding relationship with EFFA, having served as its President from September 2021 to September 2023 and as a Board member since 2016.
Mr van der Duijs has held several management positions, most recently as VP Flavors Europe at International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF). His career has been defined by strategic transformation, growth, and building sustainable relationships with key stakeholders. Known for his collaborative leadership style, he understands the importance of partnership and constructive dialogue. His appointment comes at a pivotal moment, coinciding with the new European Commission’s term, and signals EFFA’s commitment to advancing its mission as a trusted partner for EU institutions and stakeholders, as well as international flavour and fragrance associations.
Building on a Strong Foundation
Outgoing Executive Director Alexander Mohr, PhD, reflected on the transition, saying: “It has been an honour to lead EFFA and work closely with Marc during his time as President. I am confident he will fulfil this role with excellence and passion, building on the progress we have achieved together.”
Expressing his gratitude, Marc added: “I thank Alexander for his exceptional leadership and dedication to EFFA. It’s an honour to take on this role and to continue building on the foundations he laid. I am excited to work with the membership to drive the association’s strategic priorities forward”.
A Vision Aligned with EFFA’s Goals
Karel Stoschek, EFFA’s current President, said about Marc: “We are thrilled to welcome Marc as Executive Director. His vision, leadership experience, and deep understanding of the flavour industry position him perfectly to advance EFFA’s strategic objectives. The EFFA Board is fully committed to supporting Marc as he leads the association into this exciting new chapter.”
As Marc takes on this important role, he is keen to engage with EFFA members and stakeholders. Reflecting on the year ahead, he shared: “I am energized to further advance the association as the engagement platform of the European Flavour Industry’s collective knowledge and strength. Having worked alongside many of you from the other side, I very much look forward to connecting at upcoming committee meetings, FlavourDays, and EFFA’s General Assembly in 2025.
A growing team
The start of the year marks another exciting addition to the EFFA team, as we also welcome Florin Preda as EFFA Junior Communications Officer. Florin will play a key role in strengthening the communications pillar of EFFA’s work.
With a background in Communication and Public Relations, Florin brings a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the team: "I am thrilled to join EFFA and contribute to its important work in the flavour sector. I look forward to collaborating with the team and the membership to support and promote the values of this creative industry," said Mr Preda.
With a renewed team, the EFFA Secretariat is excited to address key topics and seize opportunities ahead, working closely with the EFFA membership.
